In Home Newborn Session for Baby Brooks in Franklin, Ohio
One of the reasons I love in-home newborn sessions is that they allow for the perfect setup for a more candid and authentic approach to sessions. Instead of your session being all about poses, props, and elaborate set-ups swaddling your baby in all sorts of fancy ways… it instead shifts the focus to be about capturing the everyday moments that your real life is made up of — the way your baby snuggles into you, the way your baby’s fingers look wrapped around your own, and how truly little they are in the very fleeting days of the newborn stage all within the first place they got to call home.
Rather than forcing anything to look "perfect," we let the moments unfold naturally. Sometimes, the best shots end up being the unexpected smiles, the sweet nursery hangs, or your fur babies coming up to investigate and be apart of it all. Sometimes, it’s the gorgeous afternoon light dripping through a window of your house you didn’t even notice that you ever had or a stroll through the backyard as you soak in these early moments of this new huge life stage.
And honestly, I couldn’t imagine approaching newborn sessions any differently as a seasoned photographer now. Because to me, this type of approach brings such a comfort and timelessness that will turn your photos into heirlooms not only for yourself, but for your baby too. The very first pieces of their own history that say “this is what life was like when you entered this world with us.”
And this session with the Basile family was exactly all of this. I arrived at their beautiful home in Franklin, Ohio where I was instantly greeted by their 2 dogs — which is always a major bonus for me! And I was welcomed in like I was apart of the family even though I had only just met them the first time for this session.
We let the session organically unfold giving any breaks the baby needed as we went for feeds, changes, or settling. Which, is why I slot up to 2 hours for these sessions so everything can just roll without any pressure. We even snuck in some bed snuggles in a room with such gooooorgeous light that I wished I could have bottled it up and taken it away with me! We kept all the outfits super simple and timeless so Brooks and the family could just be the focus for this one. And, we even managed a few snuggles with the pups too 😊 To say this was a success was an understatement and I honestly cannot wait for little Brooks 1st birthday session next year!
